ABOUT THE ARTIST

Gaston McKenzie
Jamaican Watercolourist
Gaston McKenzie is a Jamaican watercolourist, now based in St. Vincent & The Grenadines. Born in England of Jamaican parentage, he trained in architecture and design in London and practiced architecture in Jamaica for more than two decades before relocating to St. Vincent in 2021.
From his hillside studio at Windward Cottage, surrounded by the lush landscape and distinctive dappled light of St. Vincent, McKenzie paints the places and moments that capture his imagination. His designer’s sensibility informs his approach to composition, structure, and space, while his extensive travels provide an ever-changing source of inspiration.
McKenzie has developed a loose, impressionistic approach to watercolour, capturing streets, buildings, people, and fleeting moments of Caribbean life with a strong sense of atmosphere, movement, and light.
He has exhibited and led workshops in the Caribbean, the United States, and the United Kingdom, and his work is held in collections internationally.
